"True Blood" Actor Quits Over Gay Role!
Luke Grimes allegedly has decided to leave the HBO franchise, True Blood, in it's final season due to the direction of his character, James. Originally set to play vampire boyfriend to fellow vamp Jessica, played by Deborah Ann Woll, Grimes began having concerns when he read the script for season 7 of the hit TV series.
Accoriding to Buzzfeed.com, Grimes' character was slated to have a homosexual relationship with the openly gay character, Lafayette, played by Nelson Ellis. Buzzfeed reported that Grimes originally had no problem going in that direction if, and only if,
"Lafayette [was] attracted to him, but not if the attraction was mutual."
The actor also allegedly refused to play any same sex scenes that included kissing and/or sex, however, the writers would not change the script.
Grimes' publicist, Craig Schneider, told Buzzfeed Grimes (30-years-old) dropped the show over scheduling and chose to pursue other opportunities, including Fifty Shades of Grey and American Sniper. HBO told TVLine last December regarding Grimes departure that it was due to "creative direction." The website dubbed the move "unexpected."
