A Legend, A Legacy: Robin Williams Dead at 63
It pains me to write such horrific news as this man was so much a part of my own childhood and cinematic growing up, however, with a heavy heart I write that legendary comedian/actor Robin Williams is dead at 63-years-old.
On August 11, 2014 Chicago native, Williams, was found dead in his California home unconscious. Authorities are suspecting this was a suicide due to asphyxia but are awaiting the forensic examination and toxicology reports before making a final determination. Williams has spent over 40 years making us laugh and bringing joy into our homes and onto our stages throughout the world. From standup comedian to accomplished actor to loving husband and father, this is a loss that rings the bell of sadness for millions of fans; more so for his close family and friends.
Robin Williams has had an illustrious carrer garnering him 2 Emmy's, 6 Grammy's, 6 Golden Globe's, and 2 Sag awards. The four-time Oscar nominee won his first Oscar for best supporting actor in his portrayal as very wise psychologist, Sean Maguire, in the film Good Will Hunting. Since the early 70’s Williams has been tickling our funny bones and bringing us A-list entertainment with great films like Hook, Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, Aladdin, The Birdcage, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Toys. He went on to not only give us funny but to stretch his acting chops in films such as Patch Adams, What Dreams May Come, and One Hour Photo in which he played a psychotic photo technician obsessed with the family life of one of his own customers. His television credits include Mork and Mindy, Happy Days, The Cosby Show, and many, many more. Williams was said to have been battling depression for quite some time and had just recently rechecked himself into a rehabilitation facility to help continue his sobriety from drugs and alcohol.
Like myself I’m sure there are many people around the world who feel a deepened sense of sadness. It is the feeling of losing someone so iconic, even though you may have never met, who has been a staple in your life of TV watching, film going, and theatrical comedy shows that were sure to leave you splitting your sides, wiping your eyes and sitting back in awe of such a great talent. The world will miss Robin Williams and can truly say there will never be another quite like him! On The Jaye Spot sends its deepest condolences, prayers and love to his wife, Susan Schneider, his three children, including daughter, Zelda Rae and all of his family and loved ones as they grieve in this horrific time.
